Custard tea cakes


2 cups plain or all purpose flour 

1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temp) 113g

1/3 cup white sugar

1 egg 

1/3 cup milk

1/3  cup custard powder 

2 tsp baking powder 

1 tsp vanilla essence 

1/4 tsp salt 

1 egg (for brushing)


1. In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

2. Add the egg and vanilla, mix until well combined. Then add milk .

3. Sift in flour , baking powder , salt and custard powder . Mix until well combined.

4 . Transfer the dough into a slightly floured surface. 

5. Cut the dough into equal pieces . Roll the dough pieces into balls . 

Place them in a lined baking tray . 

Use your palm to slightly flatten them .

6. Use a knife to make a cross on each dough piece . Brush each dough with an egg .

7.Bake in a preheated oven at 180 Degrees Celsius for 20 minutes or until slightly golden brown on top.
