**Instructions:**

1. In a saucepan, heat the milk with lemon peel and vanilla sugar until it comes to a boil.

2. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until smooth.

3. Gradually add the cornstarch to the egg mixture, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
